Description

The Somni Snore Guard Mouthpiece is designed for people who snore with their mouth open and wish to stop snoring. It is a discrete, convenient and low cost treatment for mouth breathing and the effects of snoring and bad breath. Somni Snore Guard is moulded in hot water by the user to a comfortable fit. It is completely unobtrusive and can easily be used in an aeroplane, train, etc. At least one clear nasal airway is essential as breathing through the mouth is effectively blocked by this device.

Published clinical trials have demonstrated the success of this device and since we first introduced it to our customers over 10 years ago, it has become a truly indispensable product.

Pack contents: 1 mouthpiece, 1 container, fitting instructions.

Materials

The device is made of FDA and European Standards food grade EVA.

How to fit/mould

Read Carefully: Review the instructions thoroughly before starting the fitting process.

  1. Prepare: Work in front of a mirror and ensure your nasal passages are clear.
  2. Practice Placement: Practice placing the Snore Guard in your mouth with the holes facing down and the tag positioned between your teeth. Don’t worry if it feels bulky; it will shrink to fit.
  3. Heat and Soften: Mix 3 cups of boiling water with 2 cups of cold tap water in a bowl. Immerse the Snore Guard in the mixture for 20–30 seconds until it becomes soft.
  4. Mold to Fit: Quickly transfer the softened Snore Guard to your mouth. Gently clench the tag between your teeth and close your lips over the device. Suck your lips and cheeks onto the guard while pressing the tag against the roof of your mouth with your tongue. Hold this position for 60 seconds.
  5. Check Fit: Rinse the Snore Guard in cold water, then return it to your mouth to check the fit. Your lips should close comfortably with only a slight sensation of pressure.
Consequences of mouth breathing

The consequences of mouth breathing at night are often bad breath (halitosis) and snoring, both of which are undesirable and unpleasant for others.

  • Halitosis is caused by decaying bacteria located on the tongue, palate and areas between the teeth. The effect of decay is enhanced when you breathe through your mouth at night, as an open mouth leads to loss of moisture on the tongue and palate and also allows unpleasant odour to escape; ‘morning breath’.
  • In addition to mouth breathing, the intake of certain foods, drink, and drugs are known to cause a dry mouth and halitosis. Onion and garlic, for example, contain high concentrations of sulphur that pass through the lining of the intestines into the blood-stream and are subsequently released into the lungs and exhaled; ‘garlic breath’.
  • Similarly, proteins in dairy products break down in the mouth leading to the release of amino acids that are rich in sulphur; ‘eggy breath’.
  • Alcoholic drinks decrease saliva production resulting in a dry mouth and consequent bad breath. Smoking raises the concentration of volatile compounds in the mouth and lungs and because it too has a drying effect on the oral mucosa, the unpleasant smell of smoke is not only exhaled from the lungs but is also present in the mouth.
  • Certain drugs such as antidepressants and antihistamines predispose to dry mouth leading to halitosis.

Excellent product.

This guard helps to keep the mouth closed. I also used a tape to help a little bit more to the guard. I give a 9 from 10 to hepl with the apnea.

Excellent product

I have found the snore guard an excellent product. I actually bought it to prevent myself biting my tongue during sleep, it worked for this but also my wife tells me my snoring has stopped completely. The fitting process is weird but if you follow the instructions its fine. I have had mine a few weeks so don’t know how long it will last. I would certainly recommend it.

Somni Snore Guard

I had complaints from my husband because of snoring (he snores too but as he says doesn’t hear himself). I was waking up all the time with a dry mouth. This device has transformed my sleep. It felt strange the first few times and I did mould it a couple of times to get a good fit. I quite like using it now, it must be what a child feels with a soothing dummy ! I see some people have reviewed and said expensive for what it is. The difference it has made to me has been worth every penny. Excellent product for me, probably not for everyone but great for me.

pretty good device

My husband has terrible snoring problems and there have been times when he has moved to another room due to the noise. He has tried various appliances from sprays, mouth guards, rings, pillows, you name it, he seems to have tried just about everything, Some devices have offered assistance, but only temporarily; but so far, this guard is not a bad little product. So much so, that I now have a reasonable night’s sleep and my husband’s jaw and teeth do not provide the same problems as other mouth guards purchased. Yes, he does snore a little on and off and he does have a tendency to whistle slightly due to his breathing through the device but for me it’s the best so far.Overall, I am quite impressed with this and it does not break the bank, so it give it a go if all else has failed.

Pretty effective

My husband has had a problem with snoring for many years and he has tried all sorts with little effect. Since buying this, I have noticed a considerable difference and am not kept awake so much during the night. It is not perfect but at least he does not have to leave the main bedroom to sleep elsewhere. I would certainly recommend this product to try, especially as it is not too expensive.
