Description
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 is a one-piece mandibular advancement device designed to reduce snoring and help manage mild to moderate OSA. Worn during sleep, it gently holds the lower jaw and tongue forward to keep the airway open, improving airflow.
This boil-and-bite device is made from medically safe, hypoallergenic thermoplastic that softens in hot water and moulds to your bite for a secure, custom fit. For best results, we strongly recommend having the device fitted by a healthcare professional (such as a dentist, ENT specialist, or sleep physician), although it can be fitted at home.
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 fits most jaw sizes due to its flexible material. It’s generally well tolerated, though some users may experience mild, temporary side effects like excess saliva or slight morning discomfort. The instructions for use include all potential side effects.
The material contains no allergens, latex, silicone, BPA, or phthalates. The typical lifespan of the product is 6-12 months, though heavy jaw movement or teeth grinding (bruxism) may shorten this.
Please note: Unobstructed nasal breathing is required to use this product. Consult your dentist if you have concerns about your teeth or jaw alignment before using, or your doctor if you have concerns about your snoring or OSA.

Snoring and mild to moderate OSA often occur when the airway becomes narrowed or blocked during sleep. This can happen when the muscles in the throat relax, causing the tongue and soft tissues to fall back and restrict airflow.
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 is designed to gently hold the lower jaw and tongue in a slightly forward position. This helps open the upper airway and stabilise the soft tissues in the throat, including the soft palate and uvula, which are responsible for the vibrations that cause snoring.
By improving airflow and reducing obstructions, the Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 can help reduce snoring by limiting tissue vibrations and support more regular nighttime breathing in cases of mild to moderate OSA.
Please note: Due to hygiene reasons, fitted or used devices cannot be returned, so refunds aren’t possible if fitted incorrectly.
For best results, we strongly recommend having the device fitted by a healthcare professional (such as a dentist, ENT specialist, or sleep physician).
However, we understand some users may choose to fit the device themselves. If you do, please refer to the detailed instructions provided for a step-by-step guide on how to mould the device. You can also watch the fitting video for additional guidance.
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 uses the boil-and-bite method, where the thermoplastic material softens in hot water and hardens to fit your teeth and jaw position once cooled.
The fitting process takes about 15 minutes and involves the following steps:
- Heat the device in hot water for 20 seconds.
- Bite into the softened material with your lower jaw slightly forward.
- Cool the device in cold water to harden it and set the shape.
What is a mandibular advancement device?
A mandibular advancement device is a type of mouthpiece worn while you sleep. It works by gently moving your lower jaw forward, helping to keep your airway open. This can reduce snoring and is often recommended to support symptoms of mild to moderate OSA.
You may have also heard mandibular advancement devices (often abbreviated to MADs) called a mandibular advancement splint, mandibular repositioning device, or even a mandibular device for snoring – but these are all just different names for the same type of oral device.
What’s the difference between a mandibular advancement device and a mouth guard?
Although they can look similar, a mandibular advancement device is specifically designed to reposition the jaw and improve airflow. A regular mouth guard, used for sports or teeth grinding, doesn’t move the jaw forward and won’t usually help with snoring.
People often search for terms like mandibular mouth guard, MAD mouth guard, or snoring mouth guard when what they’re actually looking for is a mandibular advancement device – the correct type of oral appliance for reducing snoring and easing the symptoms of mild to moderate OSA.
Do mandibular advancement devices really work?
Many people find that a mandibular advancement device helps to reduce snoring, though results can differ from person to person. Clinical studies indicate they can be effective. They’re also recognised within the NHS as a treatment option for snoring and for some cases of mild to moderate OSA.
Are mandibular advancement devices comfortable?
Like any oral appliance, a mandibular advancement device can take a little time to get used to. Adjustable or custom-fit designs usually provide the best comfort for long-term use.

still getting shouted at
Advised by my GP to try a snore guard. The snore guard seems to work quite well according to the wife, (i would not know as i am asleep) as long as it remains in place. I have apparently gone from sounding like a hibernating bear in a cave with a deep bellowing snore to a loud purr providing the guard remains in place. The biggest problem is as i fall into a deep sleep the guard either slips from my upper or lower teeth and the snoring begins. I have not managed to create sufficient fit for the product to remain in place all night. When th wife does wake me i can refit it immediately and the cycle begins again. I inly get woke every couple of hours now and not every 20 minutes so some improvement has been gained.
great buy
Lived with husband snoring for 6 yrs. Hospital recommend this product and viola a good night ssleep for me, unless it falls out his mouth then he instantly snores again!
It REALY WORKED
I have been a snorer for quite a number of years now and my poor girl has been suffering. I was never really sure if this sort of thing actually worked or if it was just some gimmick. But I have to say it absolutely does work. You have to follow the instructions very carfully though, because in setting up your somno it is absolutely vital in getting your teeth/jaw in the right position. I have been using the somno for over a month now and I haven’t snored once. Even when I have had a heavy night out (which is usualy when I snore the worst). It does take a little getting used to (having something in your mouth all night). also in the morning when you take it out your jaw will feel a little strange, but it quickly passes. If you are in doubt about this product. Just do what I did and take the plunge. I gaurantee you wont regret it.
SomnoGuard 3
I chose the SomnoGuard 3 after trying the snore tests suggested in your website. I do not mouth breath, and my airway is less easy to occlude when I extend my lower jaw. I had tried another simpler hinged non mouldable mandibular extension type device, but found it pushed too much on my front teeth only and loosened the teath with each nights use. The Somnoguard 3 seems better. It does usually prevent snoring and I get a better nights sleep usually. I found the moulding process a little more difficult than I thought. I should have heeded the advice to only heat the device for a short period if not experienced, as the heat makes it very soft and floppy. I got most of the mould correct but the back part of one side of the guard got crushed by my molars . I tried to re heat and straighten it out but it remained deformed. It still works OK but it means that on one side I have good support all along the tooth line, and on the other I have pressure mainly on the fron t 5 or 6 teeth. I will be ordering another and trying again soon.
Works ok, poor fitting
Advised to get a mandibular advancement device by a consultant at hospital. This item seems to work ok as it mostly stops me snoring. However it is a poor fit. I have experience of fitting mouthguards through martial arts but this was probably the worst fitting I have completed. The hole in the front nearly closed up even with careful use of the spatula provided and I had to keep it open with a wider implement to stop it closing up totally. As I have a very small head and therefore jaw this item felt very big in my mouth and only just bearable at night. also at night it protrudes from my lips therefore making them and my gums dry up and feel awful.
