Description
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 is a one-piece mandibular advancement device designed to reduce snoring and help manage mild to moderate OSA. Worn during sleep, it gently holds the lower jaw and tongue forward to keep the airway open, improving airflow.
This boil-and-bite device is made from medically safe, hypoallergenic thermoplastic that softens in hot water and moulds to your bite for a secure, custom fit. For best results, we strongly recommend having the device fitted by a healthcare professional (such as a dentist, ENT specialist, or sleep physician), although it can be fitted at home.
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 fits most jaw sizes due to its flexible material. It’s generally well tolerated, though some users may experience mild, temporary side effects like excess saliva or slight morning discomfort. The instructions for use include all potential side effects.
The material contains no allergens, latex, silicone, BPA, or phthalates. The typical lifespan of the product is 6-12 months, though heavy jaw movement or teeth grinding (bruxism) may shorten this.

Snoring and mild to moderate OSA often occur when the airway becomes narrowed or blocked during sleep. This can happen when the muscles in the throat relax, causing the tongue and soft tissues to fall back and restrict airflow.
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 is designed to gently hold the lower jaw and tongue in a slightly forward position. This helps open the upper airway and stabilise the soft tissues in the throat, including the soft palate and uvula, which are responsible for the vibrations that cause snoring.
By improving airflow and reducing obstructions, the Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 can help reduce snoring by limiting tissue vibrations and support more regular nighttime breathing in cases of mild to moderate OSA.

The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 uses the boil-and-bite method, where the thermoplastic material softens in hot water and hardens to fit your teeth and jaw position once cooled.
The fitting process takes about 15 minutes and involves the following steps:
- Heat the device in hot water for 20 seconds.
- Bite into the softened material with your lower jaw slightly forward.
- Cool the device in cold water to harden it and set the shape.
- What is a mandibular advancement device?

overly large
Apart from being a challenge to mould according to the instructions, this mouth guard is simply too big and clunky to be comfortable (or work) sadly.
Problem solved
This is a very good product. I found it initially uncomfortable to use but realised that it reduced my snoring considerably. I now seem to have retrained myself to reduce my snoring. The improvement was very rapid.

Having slept in the spare room for over a year after getting tired of sore ribs from my wife’s elbow, I now sleep in the same bed again. Not only that but I’ve also started dreaming again. I’m no expert but possibly the snoring stops the deep sleep needed for snoring. I also wake up earlier feeling better rested. The guard feels uncomfortable for a few nights but o quickly got used to it. I do snore an odd time but that’s usually as I’ve spat out the guard. Highly recommend trying one even if your snoring isn’t bothering anyone else. Gerald

Bought the device six weeks ago, and cannot believe that I no longer snore. It took two weeks to get used to, and two weeks before I could keep it in all night. A little sore mouth early on, and a slight jaw ache – but it works, I am amazed and wish I had found out about it years ago
It seems to work!
My partner’s a very light sleeper and kept waking up during the night because of my snoring (I’m a better sleeper so don’t wake up when they snore heavily). This affected me as they then kept waking me up resulting in disturbed sleep for me too. I sleep on my front / side anyway so that wasn’t part of the solution.My doctor tried putting me on Beconase to no effect, but didn’t have much else to suggest other than reviewing the available advice so I found the BSSAA, did the snore tests and these indicated that an oral appliance may work. It was quite easy to fit and seems to have done the trick. It seems to be uncomfortable to wear in some beds and I have to take it out but I’m fine in our normal bed at home. A straightforward and inexpensive answer to a major problem!
