Description
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 is a one-piece mandibular advancement device designed to reduce snoring and help manage mild to moderate OSA. Worn during sleep, it gently holds the lower jaw and tongue forward to keep the airway open, improving airflow.
This boil-and-bite device is made from medically safe, hypoallergenic thermoplastic that softens in hot water and moulds to your bite for a secure, custom fit. For best results, we strongly recommend having the device fitted by a healthcare professional (such as a dentist, ENT specialist, or sleep physician), although it can be fitted at home.
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 fits most jaw sizes due to its flexible material. It’s generally well tolerated, though some users may experience mild, temporary side effects like excess saliva or slight morning discomfort. The instructions for use include all potential side effects.
The material contains no allergens, latex, silicone, BPA, or phthalates. The typical lifespan of the product is 6-12 months, though heavy jaw movement or teeth grinding (bruxism) may shorten this.
Please note: Unobstructed nasal breathing is required to use this product. Consult your dentist if you have concerns about your teeth or jaw alignment before using, or your doctor if you have concerns about your snoring or OSA.

Snoring and mild to moderate OSA often occur when the airway becomes narrowed or blocked during sleep. This can happen when the muscles in the throat relax, causing the tongue and soft tissues to fall back and restrict airflow.
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 is designed to gently hold the lower jaw and tongue in a slightly forward position. This helps open the upper airway and stabilise the soft tissues in the throat, including the soft palate and uvula, which are responsible for the vibrations that cause snoring.
By improving airflow and reducing obstructions, the Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 can help reduce snoring by limiting tissue vibrations and support more regular nighttime breathing in cases of mild to moderate OSA.
Please note: Due to hygiene reasons, fitted or used devices cannot be returned, so refunds aren’t possible if fitted incorrectly.
For best results, we strongly recommend having the device fitted by a healthcare professional (such as a dentist, ENT specialist, or sleep physician).
However, we understand some users may choose to fit the device themselves. If you do, please refer to the detailed instructions provided for a step-by-step guide on how to mould the device. You can also watch the fitting video for additional guidance.
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 uses the boil-and-bite method, where the thermoplastic material softens in hot water and hardens to fit your teeth and jaw position once cooled.
The fitting process takes about 15 minutes and involves the following steps:
- Heat the device in hot water for 20 seconds.
- Bite into the softened material with your lower jaw slightly forward.
- Cool the device in cold water to harden it and set the shape.
- What is a mandibular advancement device?
A mandibular advancement device is a type of mouthpiece worn while you sleep. It works by gently moving your lower jaw forward, helping to keep your airway open. This can reduce snoring and is often recommended to support symptoms of mild to moderate OSA.
You may have also heard mandibular advancement devices (often abbreviated to MADs) called a mandibular advancement splint, mandibular repositioning device, or even a mandibular device for snoring – but these are all just different names for the same type of oral device.
- What’s the difference between a mandibular advancement device and a mouth guard?
Although they can look similar, a mandibular advancement device is specifically designed to reposition the jaw and improve airflow. A regular mouth guard, used for sports or teeth grinding, doesn’t move the jaw forward and won’t usually help with snoring.
People often search for terms like mandibular mouth guard, MAD mouth guard, or snoring mouth guard when what they’re actually looking for is a mandibular advancement device – the correct type of oral appliance for reducing snoring and easing the symptoms of mild to moderate OSA.
- Do mandibular advancement devices really work?
Many people find that a mandibular advancement device helps to reduce snoring, though results can differ from person to person. Clinical studies indicate they can be effective. They’re also recognised within the NHS as a treatment option for snoring and for some cases of mild to moderate OSA.
- Are mandibular advancement devices comfortable?
Like any oral appliance, a mandibular advancement device can take a little time to get used to. Adjustable or custom-fit designs usually provide the best comfort for long-term use.

OK but disappointed
I found it quite difficult to get the mould right the first time and had to redo it as per the instructions. It did reduce my snoring but after about 3 nights it kept slipping out. Disappointed for the price. Might be better if you get it professionally fitted.
Keep with it.
I tried this under a friends recommendation and after completing the tests (and some input from my wife) showed I had a snoring problem related to my throat.I tried this device but found it difficult at the start keeping it in my mouth and feeling comfortable with it but there was definitely an improvement when it was in. After about a week, and a few re-settings of the device, I eventually found it far easier to use through the night. The wife and I are now sleeping much better thanks to this device and a little perseverance.

IT WORKS! After many years of waking up with sore ribs from my wife elbowing me to stop snoring. I completed the questionnaire and this product was recommended. From the first night of using it, I have been reliably informed that I have not been snoring (3 weeks now). Initially, sleeping with the ‘gum shield’ in was strange and took a little bit of getting used to but by night 3-4 It was fine. A*

I had tried all the anti-snoring remedies in the chemists, all without success. My wife had banished me to the spare room as my snoring was preventing her getting a good nights sleep. As a last resort, I went on the British Snoring Association website and did the online test. it recommended the Tomed SomnoGuard 3 product as the best solution for my circumstances, so I purchased one.It is basically a gum shield which I put in my mouth every night. I had to mould to the shape of my teeth, which is easily done by heating it in water and biting down on it to get the correct shape.I tend to breathe through my mouth when asleep and this was causing my snoring as the air was vibrating the tissue at the back of my throat. The SomnoGuard 3 eliminated this problem as it has a small hole in it which only allows a limited amount of air to pass through, thus reducing the vibration and the snoring.I am now back in the main bedroom with my wife and we are both getting a good nights sleep.I would thoroughly recommend this product to anyone who is a mouth breather” at night like myself.”””

I bought this for myself for the benefit of my husband, as despite being a 5ft nothing not particularly overweight female I snore really loudly! I did the snore tests shown on your site which recommended this device. I found the fitting process a little tricky and even now it is rather loose and tends to come off my top teeth if I sleep on my back but I do have a small mouth. The results however have been miraculous! I have stopped snoring completely (unless it comes off as described) much to the delight of my long suffering husband. I will probably upgrade to one of the 2 part devices in time but am very happy to have found this solution and would recommend it to anyone as a low cost way of discovering if it works for you.
