Description
The Tomed SomnoGuard® SPX is a two-piece mandibular advancement device designed to reduce snoring and help manage mild to moderate OSA. It works by gently holding the lower jaw forward during sleep to help keep the airway open, using slim side connectors that allow millimetre-precise adjustment. Both screw and non-screw connector options are included.
Each tray consists of a stable outer shell and a thermoplastic inner layer that softens in hot water and moulds to your bite using the boil-and-bite method. The tray width can also be adjusted during fitting to suit a wide range of jaw sizes. For best results, we strongly recommend having the device fitted by a healthcare professional (such as a dentist, ENT specialist, or sleep physician), although it can be fitted at home.
The SomnoGuard® SPX is suitable for all jaw sizes, including individuals with protruding lower jaws, it also allows for mouth breathing and slight jaw opening during use.
The material is medically safe and contains no allergens, latex, silicone, BPA, or phthalates. The typical lifespan is around 1 to 1½ years, although teeth grinding (bruxism) or strong jaw movement may reduce this.
Please note: Consult your dentist if you have concerns about your teeth or jaw alignment before use, or your doctor if you have concerns about your snoring or OSA.

Snoring and mild to moderate OSA often occur when the airway becomes narrowed or blocked during sleep. This can happen when the muscles in the throat relax, causing the tongue and soft tissues to fall back and restrict airflow.
The Tomed SomnoGuard® SPX is worn at night and uses two slim lateral connectors to hold the lower jaw slightly forward. By advancing the jaw, the device opens the upper airway and stabilises the soft tissues, reducing their vibration and fluttering, which causes snoring sounds.
The two-part appliance mainly encloses the less sensitive rear teeth and the front teeth only from the front side, so less pressure is exerted on the bite, increasing comfort during use.
The precise jaw advancement allows you to find the optimal position to keep your airway open. This helps reduce snoring and may improve breathing during sleep by limiting airway obstruction associated with mild to moderate OSA.
Please note: Due to hygiene reasons, fitted or used devices cannot be returned, so refunds aren’t possible if fitted incorrectly.
For best results, we strongly recommend having the device fitted by a healthcare professional (such as a dentist, ENT specialist, or sleep physician).
However, we understand some users may choose to fit the device themselves. If you do, please carefully follow the detailed instructions included with your product.
The SomnoGuard® SPX uses a boil-and-bite process and comes with a special fitting holder that makes heating and positioning the jaw trays easier. Each tray is clicked into the holder and heated individually in hot water before being placed in the mouth for moulding. This helps simplify handling and ensures a more accurate fit.
A slot mechanism on the front rail allows the tray width to be adjusted. After heating, you can gently squeeze or pull the trays apart to suit your jaw size. The thermoplastic material features a shape memory effect, so when reheated, it returns to its original form, allowing the fitting to be repeated if needed.
The fitting process takes about 20 minutes and involves the following steps:
- Heat the trays in hot water for about 60 seconds using the included holder
- Bite into the softened trays so the material forms around your teeth
- Cool the trays in cold water so they harden and retain your dental impressions
- If needed, gently adjust the tray width while warm by squeezing or pulling for a better fit
Once the trays are moulded, attach the lateral connectors to link the upper and lower jaw trays. The SomnoGuard® SPX comes with both screw and non-screw connector options.
It’s recommended to start with the screw connectors, which allow fine, incremental adjustments so you can find the most effective and comfortable level of jaw advancement. Once this has been established, you can switch to a non-screw connector for ongoing nightly use.
