Description
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 is a one-piece mandibular advancement device designed to reduce snoring and help manage mild to moderate OSA. Worn during sleep, it gently holds the lower jaw and tongue forward to keep the airway open, improving airflow.
This boil-and-bite device is made from medically safe, hypoallergenic thermoplastic that softens in hot water and moulds to your bite for a secure, custom fit. For best results, we strongly recommend having the device fitted by a healthcare professional (such as a dentist, ENT specialist, or sleep physician), although it can be fitted at home.
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 fits most jaw sizes due to its flexible material. It’s generally well tolerated, though some users may experience mild, temporary side effects like excess saliva or slight morning discomfort. The instructions for use include all potential side effects.
The material contains no allergens, latex, silicone, BPA, or phthalates. The typical lifespan of the product is 6-12 months, though heavy jaw movement or teeth grinding (bruxism) may shorten this.
Please note: Unobstructed nasal breathing is required to use this product. Consult your dentist if you have concerns about your teeth or jaw alignment before using, or your doctor if you have concerns about your snoring or OSA.

Snoring and mild to moderate OSA often occur when the airway becomes narrowed or blocked during sleep. This can happen when the muscles in the throat relax, causing the tongue and soft tissues to fall back and restrict airflow.
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 is designed to gently hold the lower jaw and tongue in a slightly forward position. This helps open the upper airway and stabilise the soft tissues in the throat, including the soft palate and uvula, which are responsible for the vibrations that cause snoring.
By improving airflow and reducing obstructions, the Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 can help reduce snoring by limiting tissue vibrations and support more regular nighttime breathing in cases of mild to moderate OSA.
Please note: Due to hygiene reasons, fitted or used devices cannot be returned, so refunds aren’t possible if fitted incorrectly.
For best results, we strongly recommend having the device fitted by a healthcare professional (such as a dentist, ENT specialist, or sleep physician).
However, we understand some users may choose to fit the device themselves. If you do, please refer to the detailed instructions provided for a step-by-step guide on how to mould the device. You can also watch the fitting video for additional guidance.
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 uses the boil-and-bite method, where the thermoplastic material softens in hot water and hardens to fit your teeth and jaw position once cooled.
The fitting process takes about 15 minutes and involves the following steps:
- Heat the device in hot water for 20 seconds.
- Bite into the softened material with your lower jaw slightly forward.
- Cool the device in cold water to harden it and set the shape.
- What is a mandibular advancement device?
A mandibular advancement device is a type of mouthpiece worn while you sleep. It works by gently moving your lower jaw forward, helping to keep your airway open. This can reduce snoring and is often recommended to support symptoms of mild to moderate OSA.
You may have also heard mandibular advancement devices (often abbreviated to MADs) called a mandibular advancement splint, mandibular repositioning device, or even a mandibular device for snoring – but these are all just different names for the same type of oral device.
- What’s the difference between a mandibular advancement device and a mouth guard?
Although they can look similar, a mandibular advancement device is specifically designed to reposition the jaw and improve airflow. A regular mouth guard, used for sports or teeth grinding, doesn’t move the jaw forward and won’t usually help with snoring.
People often search for terms like mandibular mouth guard, MAD mouth guard, or snoring mouth guard when what they’re actually looking for is a mandibular advancement device – the correct type of oral appliance for reducing snoring and easing the symptoms of mild to moderate OSA.
- Do mandibular advancement devices really work?
Many people find that a mandibular advancement device helps to reduce snoring, though results can differ from person to person. Clinical studies indicate they can be effective. They’re also recognised within the NHS as a treatment option for snoring and for some cases of mild to moderate OSA.
- Are mandibular advancement devices comfortable?
Like any oral appliance, a mandibular advancement device can take a little time to get used to. Adjustable or custom-fit designs usually provide the best comfort for long-term use.

No Snoring
I have been wearing the Somnoguard 3 after recommendation from the ENT Doctor after snoring for a while. Since wearing it I haven’t snored at all in the last two weeks. I will say the mouth guard does take some getting used to and the more you wear it the more comfortable it becomes. Dribbling is virtually non existent and to be honest only happened on the first few times of wearing it. Main observation is that fact that once you have fitted it (I did it twice) the device holds you lower jaw slightly forward and I do find in the morning my lower teeth ache slightly, but this sensation goes within an hour. Apart from that my partner is now sleeping a lot better!!! success all round then!
It works
The gum shield definitely works if your snoring is to do with jaw relaxation – it stopped my snoring immediately. Only problem is difficulty of moulding the shield accurately and tightly so that it maintains its hold. I’ve found that I had to try and mould it a second time to make it more comfortable, but then it lost its grip on my lower jaw so it became less effective. I’m going to buy another one to see if I can get it right first time
Tomed SomnoGuard 3
I bought this after completing the snore test. It seems to have done the trick which is a relief as it is expensive. My family have not complained since I started using the guard. It is difficult to fit, especially trying to get the jaw in the correct position. I am a little concerned about the long term use of this on my teeth and am going to speak to my dentist as I’m not sure I fitted it correctly. It’s not particularly comfortable to wear but if it stops snoring it’s a small price to pay! If you snore because of tongue vibration give it a go.

Recently purchased one of these products for travel, already have a cpap machine . Afraid the water was too hot in the pan and it stuck to the bottom despite the spatula I couldn’t get it outo, had to use a dinner fork, and by then it was very distorted. Most of the material seemed to be in front of my teeth very little behind. Difficult to estimate how advanced the upper teeth are if at all. Tried it for a few nights dot think it’s for me,may suit others.,as I have a problem with my right nostril when lying on my right. Donal
Best one yet
Have bought various different types of these and this is by far the best. It fits well straight away and hardly made a noise all night.
