Description
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 is a one-piece mandibular advancement device designed to reduce snoring and help manage mild to moderate OSA. Worn during sleep, it gently holds the lower jaw and tongue forward to keep the airway open, improving airflow.
This boil-and-bite device is made from medically safe, hypoallergenic thermoplastic that softens in hot water and moulds to your bite for a secure, custom fit. For best results, we strongly recommend having the device fitted by a healthcare professional (such as a dentist, ENT specialist, or sleep physician), although it can be fitted at home.
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 fits most jaw sizes due to its flexible material. It’s generally well tolerated, though some users may experience mild, temporary side effects like excess saliva or slight morning discomfort. The instructions for use include all potential side effects.
The material contains no allergens, latex, silicone, BPA, or phthalates. The typical lifespan of the product is 6-12 months, though heavy jaw movement or teeth grinding (bruxism) may shorten this.
Please note: Unobstructed nasal breathing is required to use this product. Consult your dentist if you have concerns about your teeth or jaw alignment before using, or your doctor if you have concerns about your snoring or OSA.

Snoring and mild to moderate OSA often occur when the airway becomes narrowed or blocked during sleep. This can happen when the muscles in the throat relax, causing the tongue and soft tissues to fall back and restrict airflow.
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 is designed to gently hold the lower jaw and tongue in a slightly forward position. This helps open the upper airway and stabilise the soft tissues in the throat, including the soft palate and uvula, which are responsible for the vibrations that cause snoring.
By improving airflow and reducing obstructions, the Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 can help reduce snoring by limiting tissue vibrations and support more regular nighttime breathing in cases of mild to moderate OSA.
Please note: Due to hygiene reasons, fitted or used devices cannot be returned, so refunds aren’t possible if fitted incorrectly.
For best results, we strongly recommend having the device fitted by a healthcare professional (such as a dentist, ENT specialist, or sleep physician).
However, we understand some users may choose to fit the device themselves. If you do, please refer to the detailed instructions provided for a step-by-step guide on how to mould the device. You can also watch the fitting video for additional guidance.
The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 uses the boil-and-bite method, where the thermoplastic material softens in hot water and hardens to fit your teeth and jaw position once cooled.
The fitting process takes about 15 minutes and involves the following steps:
- Heat the device in hot water for 20 seconds.
- Bite into the softened material with your lower jaw slightly forward.
- Cool the device in cold water to harden it and set the shape.
What is a mandibular advancement device?
A mandibular advancement device is a type of mouthpiece worn while you sleep. It works by gently moving your lower jaw forward, helping to keep your airway open. This can reduce snoring and is often recommended to support symptoms of mild to moderate OSA.
You may have also heard mandibular advancement devices (often abbreviated to MADs) called a mandibular advancement splint, mandibular repositioning device, or even a mandibular device for snoring – but these are all just different names for the same type of oral device.
What’s the difference between a mandibular advancement device and a mouth guard?
Although they can look similar, a mandibular advancement device is specifically designed to reposition the jaw and improve airflow. A regular mouth guard, used for sports or teeth grinding, doesn’t move the jaw forward and won’t usually help with snoring.
People often search for terms like mandibular mouth guard, MAD mouth guard, or snoring mouth guard when what they’re actually looking for is a mandibular advancement device – the correct type of oral appliance for reducing snoring and easing the symptoms of mild to moderate OSA.
Do mandibular advancement devices really work?
Many people find that a mandibular advancement device helps to reduce snoring, though results can differ from person to person. Clinical studies indicate they can be effective. They’re also recognised within the NHS as a treatment option for snoring and for some cases of mild to moderate OSA.
Are mandibular advancement devices comfortable?
Like any oral appliance, a mandibular advancement device can take a little time to get used to. Adjustable or custom-fit designs usually provide the best comfort for long-term use.

Saved my bacon
This mouth guard was recommended to me by my doctor and has completely stopped my snoring! It takes a little time to get used to, but the discomfort is very minimal and it is really worth it because now I can enjoy a good night’s sleep with my partner.
seems to work
I took the snoring test, and this item was recommended. It was initially not very comfortable, but I repeated the fitting instructions for slightly longer, and it is now a much better fit. I have also got more used to it to the point where sleep is comfortable. As to whether it works, I can’t say. But my wife says her sleep is no longer disturbed by my snoring, so it must be working. I feel it’s rather expensive for a simple piece of plastic moulding, and will mark it down for that reason.
Excellent, does what it's meant to do :)
My partner is a light sleeper and my snoring, although light and intermittent (…I think so anyway!), never fails to wake him up – and then he prods me and grumbles and I wake up and then we are both grumpy. I haven’t consulted a doctor or been diagnosed or anything, I just thought I’d give this a go after doing a google search on one particularly grumpy day! Which is why I picked the cheapest version. It arrived very quickly and the instructions were clear. The process of moulding it to my jaw was fairly straightforward, and safe because if you get it wrong you can just re-heat the guard, soften it and start again. It’s been 2 or 3 weeks now, and well – it works! The odd night when I forget or don’t bother to put it in, partner wakes me up complaining about snoring. All the other nights, blissful sleep. Hurrah!Pluses:IT WORKS. We can both sleep better. It’s reasonably simple to mould. It’s simple to maintain (rinse in water when I get up, leave to dry. It comes in its own storage box.)Minuses:Drool factor. When I’m relaxed my lips don’t completely close over it, so when I’m lying on my side I get the unappealing bit of sleep-drool. Combine that with the lack of sex-appeal of wearing a rugby-player gum shield… But once everyone’s asleep WHO CARES. I now put a small towel over my pillow. Problem solved.Achy teeth. The mornings after the first few nights, my top front teeth ached from being pushed in, and my bottom front teeth from being pushed out. This has passed now though. Achy jaw. At the moment (week 2 or maybe 3) my jaw joints are a bit achy. This is already passing, it’s not as bad today as the past few days.Other notes:I had a cold and a blocked nose when it first arrived and I was worried I might not be able to breathe through the small slit, but actually it was fine. I haven’t seen my dentist about this yet but I’m due a checkup soon, I’ll bring the guard and the box and information to show him. I shall report back if anything of note comes out of this.Sounds silly but this little piece of thermo-plastic has actually been pretty life changing. It’s awesome to be able to sleep properly. The day I have to replace this model I will definitely consider one of the more fancy and expensive ones.
Tomed SomnoGuard 3 Thumbs up
When the neighbours bang on the wall because of your snoring you have to act. I took the test and on the website and it suggested the Tomed SomnoGuard 3. My snoring is from the soft tissue at the back of the throat where the two airways meet and have no problem with breathing through my nose only at night – in fact a big part of my problem is the closed mouth. It also made no difference sleeping on my front, side or back. According to the app on my phone I was producing 70db a night, a hairdryer is about 80db – I have people who will vouch for this and the bruises to prove it. Ordered from this site and delivery was quick. Fitting was relatively easy, however the importance of keeping the lollypop stick in place was not emphasised enough – it keeps the hole open in the moulding process – very important, especially when setting your bite. The other bit is that you need to mould it so you can’t close your lips, it works by keeping the mouth airway open, you need to keep this mind when you mould. It takes about a week of wear to get used to sleeping with the mouthpiece in but after that its fine and only notice it when I wake up. No drooling or other issues to report. Although the maintenance instructions are a little vague. I rinse it with water then mouthwash every morning, seems to work. Whilst I’m not going to say its completely and utterly stopped my snoring it has made a massive difference. The verdict is that at my worst it is heavy breathing and bar one time where I managed to close my lips (see moulding comments) and went into full on old levels of snoring, it really works. By keeping both mouth and nose airways clear and open it has massively reduced the noise. As per usual advice sleeping on my side offers the best chance of success. Prefect? No. But not far off. Certainly worth a go.
Tomed Somnoguard 3
Ordered product after completing your snore test which was very informative and useful. Initially Somnoguard worked extremely well although effects have started to wear off but although I am still snoring, it has reduced the effect and overall I am pleased with the product
