Description

The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 is a one-piece mandibular advancement device designed to reduce snoring and help manage mild to moderate OSA. Worn during sleep, it gently holds the lower jaw and tongue forward to keep the airway open, improving airflow.

This boil-and-bite device is made from medically safe, hypoallergenic thermoplastic that softens in hot water and moulds to your bite for a secure, custom fit. For best results, we strongly recommend having the device fitted by a healthcare professional (such as a dentist, ENT specialist, or sleep physician), although it can be fitted at home.

The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 fits most jaw sizes due to its flexible material. It’s generally well tolerated, though some users may experience mild, temporary side effects like excess saliva or slight morning discomfort. The instructions for use include all potential side effects.

The material contains no allergens, latex, silicone, BPA, or phthalates. The typical lifespan of the product is 6-12 months, though heavy jaw movement or teeth grinding (bruxism) may shorten this.

Please note: Unobstructed nasal breathing is required to use this product. Consult your dentist if you have concerns about your teeth or jaw alignment before using, or your doctor if you have concerns about your snoring or OSA.

How does the Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 work?

Snoring and mild to moderate OSA often occur when the airway becomes narrowed or blocked during sleep. This can happen when the muscles in the throat relax, causing the tongue and soft tissues to fall back and restrict airflow.

The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 is designed to gently hold the lower jaw and tongue in a slightly forward position. This helps open the upper airway and stabilise the soft tissues in the throat, including the soft palate and uvula, which are responsible for the vibrations that cause snoring.

By improving airflow and reducing obstructions, the Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 can help reduce snoring by limiting tissue vibrations and support more regular nighttime breathing in cases of mild to moderate OSA.

How is the Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 fitted?

Please note: Due to hygiene reasons, fitted or used devices cannot be returned, so refunds aren’t possible if fitted incorrectly.

For best results, we strongly recommend having the device fitted by a healthcare professional (such as a dentist, ENT specialist, or sleep physician).

However, we understand some users may choose to fit the device themselves. If you do, please refer to the detailed instructions provided for a step-by-step guide on how to mould the device. You can also watch the fitting video for additional guidance.

The Tomed SomnoGuard® 3 uses the boil-and-bite method, where the thermoplastic material softens in hot water and hardens to fit your teeth and jaw position once cooled.

The fitting process takes about 15 minutes and involves the following steps:

  1. Heat the device in hot water for 20 seconds.
  2. Bite into the softened material with your lower jaw slightly forward.
  3. Cool the device in cold water to harden it and set the shape.
Additional FAQs

What is a mandibular advancement device?

A mandibular advancement device is a type of mouthpiece worn while you sleep. It works by gently moving your lower jaw forward, helping to keep your airway open. This can reduce snoring and is often recommended to support symptoms of mild to moderate OSA.

You may have also heard mandibular advancement devices (often abbreviated to MADs) called a mandibular advancement splint, mandibular repositioning device, or even a mandibular device for snoring – but these are all just different names for the same type of oral device.

What’s the difference between a mandibular advancement device and a mouth guard?

Although they can look similar, a mandibular advancement device is specifically designed to reposition the jaw and improve airflow. A regular mouth guard, used for sports or teeth grinding, doesn’t move the jaw forward and won’t usually help with snoring.

People often search for terms like mandibular mouth guard, MAD mouth guard, or snoring mouth guard when what they’re actually looking for is a mandibular advancement device – the correct type of oral appliance for reducing snoring and easing the symptoms of mild to moderate OSA.

Do mandibular advancement devices really work?

Many people find that a mandibular advancement device helps to reduce snoring, though results can differ from person to person. Clinical studies indicate they can be effective. They’re also recognised within the NHS as a treatment option for snoring and for some cases of mild to moderate OSA.

Are mandibular advancement devices comfortable?

Like any oral appliance, a mandibular advancement device can take a little time to get used to. Adjustable or custom-fit designs usually provide the best comfort for long-term use.

excellent product

I found it really difficult to mold as I have some missing teeth. I needed to trim it aswell. Although the product did not really resemble the picture once I had boiled it a couple of times, it has had the desired effect on my snoring. My partner is very happy and I feel very refreshed in the mornings these days.

Life changing

I wasn’t sure this would work but it has stopped my snoring 100%. I followed the instructions carefully and only submerged it in the boiling water for the minimum amount of time as never done this before. It has worked so well it’s worth more than gold or diamonds . My partner can now sleep all night in the same bed and my kids don’t keep banging on my door at night to tell me to stop snoring.

Comfortably and easy to fit

Bought this guard after complaints from my other half. It was extremely easy to mould to my teeth and as a result very comfortable to wear. Also seems to stay in place better than other products I have tried. Reports that snoring has improved. So seems successful.

It works!

Following sleep tests at my local hospital they recommended this sort of device. Much to my wife’s joy my snoring has stopped. It’s a bit fiddly moulding the Somnoguard to shape. Mine fell off the lolly stick. It took a couple of attempts to get it to the right shape. Wearing it is a bit strange but the benefits far outweigh the slight discomfort. Also my wife has now learned not to try and engage me in conversation when I’m wearing it as my response is unintelligible. I’ve already recommended Somnoguard to several friends.

So far so good...

I bought this on the recommendation of my ENT consultant. I had been backwads and forwards to Charing Cross for over 2 years, trying every mask they ever had for my CPAP until they finally measured my nose (why didn’t they do this first!) and announced I have the smallest nose they’;ve ever treated and don’t have a mask to fit. I was advised to buy one privately, but at 50 per half hour for the consult and no refunds on masks that don’t suit me, I simply can’t afford it.Asked my GP for an ENT referral – I don’t want surgery, but am desperate and so is my poor husband. Am having an exploratory op on my nose soon, as it is so tiny inside they want to have a look at what is going on when I snore, but in the meantime have been told to lose another stone (the first stone off made no difference but losing excess weight is good for you anyway) and try the cheapest oral device and see what happened. No problems moulding – ie; no collapsing walls etc, although I think it works loose quite quickly and am about to remould for the third time already. Drooling for the first couple of weeks is yucky, but with a tissue tucked under my chin I can relax and ignore it, and the achy teeth soon settle. I sometimes take it out without realising, but a nudge from my husband soon prompts me to put it back!! Snoring is reduced for the majority of the time – occasionally I snore badly with it in, a sign it needs remoulding I think. It certainly has made a vast improvement for both of us – apart from one thing – I don’t fall asleep quite so quickly, so I am now aware of just how much my husband snores! If this is my long term solution I am quite happy, it will avoid embarrassment on family holidays – something I was dreading as we’re away with a large group, and has reduced a strain on our relationship. However, I would invest in one that is easier to adjust my lower jaw position on, as I think that’s my main problem. to adjust only by moulding is very hard to judge. All in all, if it’s a trial to see if an oral device works for you it’s ideal, and even if I don’t buy a more expensive one in the long term it’s made a big difference. One more thing – I was suffering terribly with tense neck muscles, and have spent a fortune on massages and taken alot of pain killers, but after using this I no longer have this problem!!! Massive plus factor!
