Description

The Somni Snore Guard Mouthpiece is designed for people who snore with their mouth open and wish to stop snoring. It is a discrete, convenient and low cost treatment for mouth breathing and the effects of snoring and bad breath. Somni Snore Guard is moulded in hot water by the user to a comfortable fit. It is completely unobtrusive and can easily be used in an aeroplane, train, etc. At least one clear nasal airway is essential as breathing through the mouth is effectively blocked by this device.

Published clinical trials have demonstrated the success of this device and since we first introduced it to our customers over 10 years ago, it has become a truly indispensable product.

Pack contents: 1 mouthpiece, 1 container, fitting instructions.

Materials

The device is made of FDA and European Standards food grade EVA.

How to fit/mould

Read Carefully: Review the instructions thoroughly before starting the fitting process.

  1. Prepare: Work in front of a mirror and ensure your nasal passages are clear.
  2. Practice Placement: Practice placing the Snore Guard in your mouth with the holes facing down and the tag positioned between your teeth. Don’t worry if it feels bulky; it will shrink to fit.
  3. Heat and Soften: Mix 3 cups of boiling water with 2 cups of cold tap water in a bowl. Immerse the Snore Guard in the mixture for 20–30 seconds until it becomes soft.
  4. Mold to Fit: Quickly transfer the softened Snore Guard to your mouth. Gently clench the tag between your teeth and close your lips over the device. Suck your lips and cheeks onto the guard while pressing the tag against the roof of your mouth with your tongue. Hold this position for 60 seconds.
  5. Check Fit: Rinse the Snore Guard in cold water, then return it to your mouth to check the fit. Your lips should close comfortably with only a slight sensation of pressure.
Consequences of mouth breathing

The consequences of mouth breathing at night are often bad breath (halitosis) and snoring, both of which are undesirable and unpleasant for others.

  • Halitosis is caused by decaying bacteria located on the tongue, palate and areas between the teeth. The effect of decay is enhanced when you breathe through your mouth at night, as an open mouth leads to loss of moisture on the tongue and palate and also allows unpleasant odour to escape; ‘morning breath’.
  • In addition to mouth breathing, the intake of certain foods, drink, and drugs are known to cause a dry mouth and halitosis. Onion and garlic, for example, contain high concentrations of sulphur that pass through the lining of the intestines into the blood-stream and are subsequently released into the lungs and exhaled; ‘garlic breath’.
  • Similarly, proteins in dairy products break down in the mouth leading to the release of amino acids that are rich in sulphur; ‘eggy breath’.
  • Alcoholic drinks decrease saliva production resulting in a dry mouth and consequent bad breath. Smoking raises the concentration of volatile compounds in the mouth and lungs and because it too has a drying effect on the oral mucosa, the unpleasant smell of smoke is not only exhaled from the lungs but is also present in the mouth.
  • Certain drugs such as antidepressants and antihistamines predispose to dry mouth leading to halitosis.

A help but not miraculous

This device is more comfortable than I expected (though I did need to trim it a bit). I didn’t have any trouble getting used to sleeping with it in. The friend I go on holiday with from time to time (who is a very light sleeper), says it reduced my snoring, in both volume and duration, but didn’t eliminate it. Which was a bit disappointing. I suspect I am a multi-factoral snorer (or maybe palatal), so I don’t have a complete fix.

SOMNI SNORE GUARD

Was very sceptical at first but was encouraged by great reviews. After years uf suffering night after night from my husbands noise I couldnt believe the difference cant remember when I last slept through a whole night. Thought he might have had a strugle placing it correctly (hes not very good with these sort of things)bot low and behold not one complaint. Wish I’d known abot it long ago.

Somni Snore Guard

This product works beautifully. Initially I was daunted by the idea of wearing this in my mouth all night. However, I got used to it, and not only do I not snore and keep someone else awake, but I no longer wake myself throughout the night, and therefore I slept better. It is worthwhile using the guard with Breathe Right nasal strips to ensure that you can breathe through your nose.

easy to use and effective solution

Having completed the snore tests and read all the reviews I decided to buy a Somni Snore Guard. The reviews and information gave me the confidence to spend £38 on a piece of plastic. I worried that it would be indiscete and uncomfortable, but the moulding process was very easy and it’s comfortable to wear and seems to work well. I would suggest that a nasal relief spray is required as well (initially certainly) as, a purchaser of a somni guard is used to breathing through their mouth. I found without the nasal spray as well i did not have a clear enough airway and panicked. I bought the sterimar isotonic as well and am really impressed so far (3 days of use)

sleep at last for both of us

I have known for years that I mouth breathe at night as my dentist could tell from my gums that I did and suggested I put vaseline on my gums to keep them moist …no I didnt do it!! But it has only been in the last few years that I have been snoring badly and keeping my light sleeping husband awake. The snoring has obviously been affecting me as i would find myself awake several times in the night for no apparent reason and in the morning my eyelids were so heavy I felt as though I hadnt slept all night. Since using the mouth guard, I no longer snore and I wake up feeling much better and with moist gums … so a huge bonus all round. So glad I went on the snoring association site and have been able to sort my problem out.
