Description
The Somni Snore Guard Mouthpiece is designed for people who snore with their mouth open and wish to stop snoring. It is a discrete, convenient and low cost treatment for mouth breathing and the effects of snoring and bad breath. Somni Snore Guard is moulded in hot water by the user to a comfortable fit. It is completely unobtrusive and can easily be used in an aeroplane, train, etc. At least one clear nasal airway is essential as breathing through the mouth is effectively blocked by this device.
Published clinical trials have demonstrated the success of this device and since we first introduced it to our customers over 10 years ago, it has become a truly indispensable product.
Pack contents: 1 mouthpiece, 1 container, fitting instructions.
The device is made of FDA and European Standards food grade EVA.
Read Carefully: Review the instructions thoroughly before starting the fitting process.
- Prepare: Work in front of a mirror and ensure your nasal passages are clear.
- Practice Placement: Practice placing the Snore Guard in your mouth with the holes facing down and the tag positioned between your teeth. Don’t worry if it feels bulky; it will shrink to fit.
- Heat and Soften: Mix 3 cups of boiling water with 2 cups of cold tap water in a bowl. Immerse the Snore Guard in the mixture for 20–30 seconds until it becomes soft.
- Mold to Fit: Quickly transfer the softened Snore Guard to your mouth. Gently clench the tag between your teeth and close your lips over the device. Suck your lips and cheeks onto the guard while pressing the tag against the roof of your mouth with your tongue. Hold this position for 60 seconds.
- Check Fit: Rinse the Snore Guard in cold water, then return it to your mouth to check the fit. Your lips should close comfortably with only a slight sensation of pressure.
The consequences of mouth breathing at night are often bad breath (halitosis) and snoring, both of which are undesirable and unpleasant for others.
- Halitosis is caused by decaying bacteria located on the tongue, palate and areas between the teeth. The effect of decay is enhanced when you breathe through your mouth at night, as an open mouth leads to loss of moisture on the tongue and palate and also allows unpleasant odour to escape; ‘morning breath’.
- In addition to mouth breathing, the intake of certain foods, drink, and drugs are known to cause a dry mouth and halitosis. Onion and garlic, for example, contain high concentrations of sulphur that pass through the lining of the intestines into the blood-stream and are subsequently released into the lungs and exhaled; ‘garlic breath’.
- Similarly, proteins in dairy products break down in the mouth leading to the release of amino acids that are rich in sulphur; ‘eggy breath’.
- Alcoholic drinks decrease saliva production resulting in a dry mouth and consequent bad breath. Smoking raises the concentration of volatile compounds in the mouth and lungs and because it too has a drying effect on the oral mucosa, the unpleasant smell of smoke is not only exhaled from the lungs but is also present in the mouth.
- Certain drugs such as antidepressants and antihistamines predispose to dry mouth leading to halitosis.

Somni Snore Guard
This guard did work to substantially decrease my snoring (according to my spouse). It was fairly uncomfortable at first, but I filed down the rough edges (that I created by cutting) and it was more comfortable. plus I’m probably just getting used to it. When uncomfortable, I take it out usually around 3 am b/c I apparently don’t snore much after that time. The directions only said to ‘put in mouth’ but I found it stayed in better if I sucked in slightly creating a slight vacuum (though also a slight pulling feeling on my top teeth). It only has fallen out 1 night in 3 weeks. Beats a $12,000 surgery to correct my snoring.
Happy Somni snore guard user
Has helped a lot. I was rather sceptical of this, but after a few nights of getting used to it, it seems to be doing the trick. The misses is happier too, as I’m not waking her up nearly as much with my snoring. Only downside is I seem to be able to open my mouth even wider at times so bypassing the ‘guard. Well worth it though, 5 good nights sleep out of 7 is a huge improvement.
Works for me!
I got the Somni Guard, not for snoring, but to keep my mouth closed while I sleep. Sleeping with my mouth closed helps control my asthma. Before discovering Somni Guard, I tried a cheaper devise that was bigger and less comfortable, and worse my dentist said it was loosening my teeth. Somni Guard does what I need, without those problems. Thanks!
Works for me
I like the Somni Snore Guard but more because it keeps my mouth from drying out than the benefit it gives others of stopping my snoring. I am apparently much more settled when I use the guard but it doesn’t completely stop snoring, for me anyway. I just like the fact that on a morning I don’t have a mouth like the bottom of a budgie’s tray and I know I’ve at least breathed through my nose for some of the night. I do have instances where the guard comes out my mouth altogether but 90% of the time it stays put and when I’m using it I definitely have a more peaceful night.
Snore Guard
Product seems to do what it says on the tin. My wife is happy that the volume of snoring is significantly reduced – although I have not had a large amount of red wine since I bought it. Questionnaire on line impressive. Fitting was relatively easy, but you need to follow the instructions exactly. I found I slept ‘normally’ with it in after about a week. Prior to that I kept waking with this strange thing in my mouth – keep persisting. I was glad I did not trim it when I first wore it. You need the full size of the pieces that go under the gums. The guard now has a very small cut in it where my teeth meet. Should not be a problem, but it obviously does need replacing every few months. Overall very satisfied – so far.
