Additional FAQs

Do nasal dilators work and how do they help with snoring?

Nasal dilators don’t cure snoring, but they can make a real difference if your snoring is caused by blocked or narrow nasal passages. Worn inside the nostrils, they gently widen the nasal valves, reducing resistance and improving airflow. This can ease nasal-based snoring, support clearer breathing through the nose, and reduce mouth breathing.

They’re less effective if your snoring comes from the throat or tongue collapsing during sleep, in which case another type of solution may be more suitable. You can take our interactive snore quiz to help determine your snoring type.

What’s the difference between nasal dilators and nasal strips?

Nasal dilators and nasal strips are sometimes referred to as internal and external nasal dilators. Both aim to improve airflow, but they work in different ways:

  • Internal nasal dilators (or nasal valve dilators) are small inserts worn inside the nostrils. They gently hold the nasal passages open and are usually reusable, providing consistent support throughout the night. Some are designed to provide extra support for weak or collapsing nasal valves.
  • External nasal dilators (or nasal strips) are adhesive bands placed across the outside of the nose. They work by gently lifting the sides of the nose to open the airways.

Many people prefer the comfort and reusability of internal dilators, while others like the convenience of disposable strips.

Are there different types of nasal dilators?

Yes. Internal nasal dilators (sometimes called nasal valve dilators) are small, reusable inserts worn inside the nostrils, while external dilators (nasal strips) are disposable adhesive bands placed across the outside of the nose. You may also come across magnetic nasal dilators, magnetic nose clips, or nose magnets, which are a more recent innovation. These devices include small magnets and are designed to hold the nostrils open in a similar way, helping to improve airflow and reduce nasal snoring.

Are nasal dilators safe to use every night?

Most nasal dilators are safe for regular nightly use. Internal dilators can be cleaned and reused but should be replaced after the period recommended by the manufacturer for hygiene. External dilators (nasal strips) are single-use and should be discarded after each night. Always read the instructions for use, as these include important details on cleaning, replacement, suitability, possible side effects, and any cautions.

How do I clean a nasal dilator?

Reusable nasal dilators should be cleaned regularly to keep them hygienic and in good condition. After each use, rinse the dilator under warm water and gently wash it with mild soap. Allow it to air-dry completely before storing it in a clean case. Always check the manufacturer’s instructions, as some types (including silicone nasal valve dilators) may have specific cleaning or replacement guidance.

Sleep right nasal breathe aid

My first thought was how difficult it was to fit compared with my usual Nardil brand, also it did not feel comfortable. I did get it in eventually but it came out in the night. Verdict. Will perservere with itBut I think Nasdil is more comfortable and easier..R Grant

It helps but not 100% effective.

On first insertion it does make breathing easier and was quite comfortable for first night or two. With use it seemed to get more uncomfortable and I had to give it a rest for several days. Although it helps it is not 100% effective and I have given up using it and am trying nasal irrigation (sinus rinse). The device might work for you.

I like these!

Decided to give this dilator a try after using the nasal strips for a few years so bought a trial pack.I was a little apprehensive of using a dilator type thinking that it would be just too uncomfortable and irritating but, surprising, that has proved not to be the case at all for me. It felt fairly comfort from the start and I never had any issue throughout the night. After a couple of nights use I did notice a little soreness but not enough to stop using it and have gotten used to it and still find it comfortable. I like this product so have since placed an order (and have received it) for a couple of the full packs of three.

SleepRight nasal breathe aid

About time someone came up with this idea! Up to now works well. I have a collapsed nostril so it makes breathing much easier. I’ve just been tested to see if I can come off CPAP machine, if I get the all clear I will certainly persevere with it! It would be great if continual development came up with a more robust one that lasts longer. I’ m not aware of it as I have been using a nose pillow with the CPAP for some time. You might make your members aware that there are nasal exercises you can do to strengthen your nose as well as cleaning your nose at night with dikuted Himalayan rock salt solution. Thanks again for a great product!

this item ??????

It certainly opens your nostrils to get more air in. I am not sure it stops or reduces snoring as we have no way of knowing. One negative about the item is that is make the inside of the nose quite sore during the night and cause discomfort if worn for long periods.
