Additional FAQs
How do nasal strips work?
A nasal strip is a small adhesive band worn across the bridge of the nose. The spring-like material inside gently lifts the sides of the nose, widening the nasal passages and reducing resistance. This makes it easier to breathe through the nose and can help reduce nasal snoring, especially if it’s linked to congestion or blocked nasal passages.
What’s the difference between nasal strips and nasal dilators?
Nasal strips and nasal dilators are sometimes referred to as external and internal nasal dilators. Both aim to improve airflow, but they work in different ways:
- External nasal dilators (or nasal strips) are adhesive bands placed across the outside of the nose. They gently lift the sides of the nose to widen the nasal passages.
- Internal nasal dilators (or nasal valve dilators) are small inserts worn inside the nostrils. They hold the nasal passages open and are usually reusable, providing consistent support throughout the night. Some versions are designed to provide extra support for weak or collapsing nasal valves.
Many people prefer the convenience of disposable strips, while others like the comfort and reusability of internal dilators.
Where do you put nasal strips on your nose?
For best results, apply the strip across the bridge of your nose, just above the flare of the nostrils. Start by washing and drying your skin to remove any oil or moisture, as the adhesive sticks best to clean, dry skin. Peel off the backing and press the strip firmly into place, smoothing down the edges so it stays secure overnight. The spring-like band should sit in the centre of the nose to gently lift the sides. Application instructions may differ slightly depending on the manufacturer, so always follow the guidance provided with your strips for correct use and safe removal.
What are the best nasal strips for snoring?
The best nasal strips for snoring depend on your individual needs. Standard adhesive strips are available in different sizes and strengths, with stronger versions designed to provide extra lift if required. You may also come across magnetic nasal strips or magnetic nose strips, which are a newer style designed to hold the nostrils open in a similar way. Checking nasal strip product reviews can help you decide which option is most suitable for you.
Are nasal strips safe to use every night?
Nasal strips are safe for most people to use nightly. Because they are single-use, a fresh strip should be applied each time. Always read the instructions, as they include important details on application, suitability, and any potential skin irritation or cautions.
